Meet Warren

A Brief Biography of Dr. Warren Mackey

Warren Mackey has served as the 4th District Hamilton County Commissioner for the last twelve years.  During this time, the County has experienced extraordinary job growth, economic development and over twenty-two thousand new residents. Hamilton County also became the only county in the State to achieve a AAA bond rating. In 2013, Commissioner Mackey was elected President of the state-wide Tennessee County Commission Association and also was elected to the National County Commission Association.

Commissioner Mackey is a native Chattanoogan and a local public school graduate.  He has a bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University and a Doctorate in History from MTSU and did post doctoral study at the University of Texas.

Dr. Mackey served as a Professor of History at Chattanooga State for thirty-eight years and also served as an adjunct at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Tennessee Wesleyan College. He has served as an active board member for non-profits across the region and also a mentor in multiple youth sporting associations.

Warren Mackey's parents left Alabama and came to Tennessee to seek a brighter future for their family.  His father left Alabama and joined the military because he did not want to be a share cropper.  After his service, he came to Chattanooga to work as a laborer. However, Dr. Mackey's parents knew the value of education and instilled into their children a strong belief that the path to a better life was through education.  Of Commissioner Mackey's seven siblings, five of them earned college degrees.

A Message from
Commissioner Mackey

This is Hamilton County Commissioner Warren Mackey and I am running for re-election. I have been a watchdog over governmental spending by serving on the finance committee every year since taking office.  We have created an economy that is very healthy with good jobs and new homes and businesses emerging every day. We have made Hamilton County’s government more efficient as evidenced by things like combining the 911 services. As of February 2018 unemployment in Hamilton County is an enviable three (3) percent.

I am running for re-election in order to continue:

(1) Helping to bring jobs to Hamilton County,
(2) Embracing policies to create a healthy environment to  promote business growth,
(3)  Working to strengthen the schools and workforce, and
(4) Promoting fiscal responsibility with the county's tax dollars.

Despite our progress as a County, there are too many people who have been left behind.  Consequently, the next four years need to be spent developing our job training programs and strengthening our public schools.

Every person in Hamilton County deserves not only a wonderful community but the opportunity to improve their lives.
